Shanklin is one of the Isle of Wight's most well-known resorts, and it is therefore no surprise that there is a whole range of activities and attractions nearby. A stroll along Shanklin's High Street and Regent Street will reveal a range of cafes, restaurants and individually owned shops, while the thatched cottages of the Old Village offer the visitor a range of tea rooms and unique gift shops.
The beach is a one of the Isle of Wight's best known stretches of golden sands, which backs onto a traditional English seafront promenade. One of Shanklin's most recognisable attractions and buildings is the Shanklin Theatre which is located on Prospect Road at one of the highest points of Shanklin town. Originally opened in 1874 the Theatre has offered a brilliant variety of entertainment over the years, from music, comedy and theatre to ballet and even the circus
Shanklin Chine is quoted as being the oldest attraction on the Island celebrating over 200 years, there are few places on the Isle of Wight, let alone England, that can boast such a tranquil and picturesque location.
Shanklin really is the most charming of traditional seaside resorts with it's glorious sandy beach set against a backdrop of dramatic sandstone cliffs. The Shanklin Esplanade, lined with traditional cafes, hotels, restaurants and pubs, is the perfect place to while away your day. Getting from the Esplanade to the cliff path with access to the town and Old Village is made easy by the cliff lift. Shanklin offers a lovely mix of the seaside and open, green space with some fantastic parks and gardens.
